Yes, you are right there is no information about status 2 in doc. But as I understand status 2 exists during time after create dialog and until final reply.
Then status can be 3,4 (if final reply received) or 5(if there is no final reply).

documentation $DLG_status can be NULL, 3, 4, 5.
